HEY TELL ME! (part I)

Two thoughts were bugging me past 4 days. Before that let me say something;i kept receiving non stop messages yesterday that was supposed to be the friendship day.i was really overwhelmed to know that i have managed to get so many friends.
Needless to say that i do cherish the friendship and my friends are my pillars of support ,are the ones i respect, admire and also want to be for them any time. But, i never had the heart to send a reply to any one of them yesterday because i had my own apprehensions about celebrating this friends day.
Like mothers day and fathers day this day is celebrated to commemorate a sacrifice done by an American friend ,tell me don't we have excellent examples of friendship in Karna of Mahabharatha, and many others in our country and why should we join hands with something that appears purely commercial.
I know i value my friends and i want to prove my friendship in their time of crisis when they really need me. I in my own opinion think i need not keep telling them i am blessed to have them in my life.
Though the concept is good, the little thing that nags me is aping the westerners.I may be wrong, but this is what i feel strongly.
AND MY FRIENDS I AM HAPPY YOU ARE THERE FOR ME AS I WOULD BE FOR U TOO.
In the end now it looks as if am writing a friendship message. hehe.

We all live in illusions, I never greet anyone on birthdays. I find it so plastic celebrations. Lovers day, all foolish days. We acknowledge western things so easily and that even writing in tamil or speaking in tamil is now a days considered great. I dont know whats great and super in talking in our mother tongue. Padhu these things we can just talk in tea time or chat about or blog about, we cant change. Let them be plastic.

It's very true that prominence to the friendship day, father's day and mother's day is catching up these days....our friends don't have to be told on this particular day that they are truly our friends...that's true...but one could always pick out a day based on our own epics and do something socially significant ...much beyond sending messages and greetings...

Very True, Padma.
I have a different Tske on these.
I strongly belive that these are excuses to push merchandise such as Greeting cards, gifts ( friendship band ....). They are merely a ploy to sell goods and services. we copy them

Not just friends day, almost all these days including valentines day are commercial. But, dont u think, beyond the commerce, somewhere deep within, we get an opportunity to stop for a second and think about what some cherished relationships in our mechanical world! So just go with it Padma ! and enjoy the days!
